Mulch Guy Bark is dedicated to proper environmental practices and helping both the urban and suburban landscape. This is where Eco-Mulch comes in. It is a by-product created from the wood debris generated from the lumber industry. The waste product of that industry is converted into a usable landscape product. This diverts a waste stream from the landfills and helps enhance your landscaping. It is all brought to our Guilford, Connecticut yard after it has been chipped, ground and aged, then double ground to create a high-quality hardwood mulch product that was another company’s waste. Eco-Mulch is a dark brown/black, natural-looking mulch that has been piled and weathered to start the decomposition process. Our Eco-Mulch is created as it is stored in large piles that heat up inside due to the activity of the microbes decomposing the wood fibers. This means that you get a product that is both weed seed-free and has a high concentration of fine organic components created during decomposition.  You can control both the look of your landscaping or garden and improve the topsoil underneath. Over time, with reapplication, natural decay and promotion of worm growth, the topsoil below will improve, not degrade.

Organic matter is important to our rapidly declining Connecticut soils that can be prone to soil compaction in high traffic and urban areas. Compacted soils are one of the leading causes of premature tree death and lawn failure during severe weather. The addition of organic matter helpa improves compacted topsoil. Organic matter is the component in soil that improves drainage and provides the storage points that organic chemical nutrients can bond to so that they are not washed away.  They are then available and released to your plants as the wood decays. The fine particles in the Eco-Mulch mesh with the larger ones in the mix to create a mat of mulch that will stay in place better than others and be less prone to float, wash or blow away. 

This product helps you imitate the natural ecological forest process. In undisturbed areas, mulch is a layer on top of the soil created by leaf-fall, decomposing plants and grass. With Eco-Mulch, you can recreate this active environment for microorganisms and worms that recycles nutrients into the soil for plants it surrounds.

Eco-Mulch helps gardeners too, by preventing weed growth and, by encouraging earthworms, drastically reduces the need for digging, or eliminates the need to dig altogether.
